Amarillos por el Mundo en Huelva

Pepe Mel goes back to his old stomping ground, the Estadio Riazor in the north west of Spain.

Another match day, another manager, another changed starting line up. Unlike Paco and Manolo before him, Pepe Mel went with a rigid looking 4 4 2 and perhaps most importantly for the islanders, a return to the cantera based identity.

Recalled to the starting 11 was our captain and leader, David Garcia. Aythami started alongside him in a defensive partnership not seen for a long time. Momo occupied one side of the midfield and Araujo and Ruben started up front.

Missing out through suspension, Juan Cala and Rafa Mir. Missing out for other reasons, Mantovani and Fidel. The change in shape also saw Peñalba drop to the bench.

Straight from kick off we saw a different side to our team. They were quicker to press and you can tell they had a renewed belief.
A smart save from Raúl Fernandez as Depor slowly come into the game. It became evident we would have to re adapt to a 4 across the middle. At times Timor seemed to wonder off, Iñigo was his just self.
Half time came and with the scores level, Derek Wheatley (UD LAS PALMAS UK FAN ZONE follower) commented on our half time post, we can get a result here.

Personally I'd be happy with a point.

Depor asked further questions as the half wore on. Changes were made by both sides to freshen the game up and to assist our new approach of pressing quicker. Davis Garcia and Aythami looked solid at the back winning almost everything. Lemos had a game attempt from 20 yards saved.
With 8 minutes left there was a red card for Edu for a very late and very cynical foul on the newly introduced Mesa. Timor brought a good save from the keeper but did we smell blood?

You bet we did!! A depor team who have failed to win at home in their last 3 games before this one, the writing was surely on the walls for a winner.
It came with a few minutes left. The ball comes to Aythami and time seemed to stand still. Timor knock it right to Aythami who lets the ball run across his body, gets it out his feet and then strokes it in off the post. Madness followed! You can see the togetherness of the team which at times has been questioned.

This result makes our next 2 games v Mallorca and Oviedo huge with both teams currently occupying spots #7 and #8 in the league.
